Well located on the eastern side of Singapore the school is in a newly renovated building. The school grounds are inviting and provide a safe environment for your child. The school is well resourced and the academic program is varied and comprehensive. We are not as big as many of the other schools but we do offer you a school where everyone will know you and your child and your child will get individual attention second to none.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>What nationalities attend One World International School?</u><br> All nationalities are able to enrol in OWIS. There is no one dominant nationality or group. Currently, twenty eight nationalities are represented in the school population, however, students who hold Singaporean citizenship only, or as part of dual citizenship, must apply to the Singapore Ministry of Education for approval to enrol. We will help you with this process.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>How do we enrol in One World International School?</u><br> If you leave your name and contact details at +65 65422285 we will contact you, provide you with all the necessary information and help you with the process. Alternatively, all the necessary documents can be found on this website.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>My child has learning/medical/social needs. Am I able to enrol him/her?</u><br> All enrolment applications are considered on a case by case basis. Once we have determined your child s needs and, if we are able to adequately cater for those needs, then the application would proceed as normal.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>Does my child have to be able to speak English?</u><br> Children from non English speaking backgrounds are eligible to enrol. OWIS provides support for these children.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>What curriculum do you follow?</u><br> OWIS is a candidate International Baccalaureate PYP (Primary Years Program).</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>Do you teach any foreign languages?</u><br> Yes, the school provides every child with daily Mandarin classes. We also provide classes in French lessons as part of our co-curricular activities.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>Is your staff trained?</u><br> Absolutely. All teaching staff hold university qualifications, are fully registered as teachers with the Singapore Ministry of Education and many of them have prior experience in teaching at International Schools.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>Why are fees in international schools so high?</u><br> In many countries domestic schools have teacher salaries and capital funding paid by the government and the schools are often exempt from tax. International schools do not qualify for any form of government funding. In addition, they have to pay taxes. The only form of funding for international schools is through fee collection.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>How many students are in each class?</u><br> It is our aim to provide individual attention for all students. Therefore, we will try to keep class sizes to 18 in the Early Childhood Centre and 20 in the Primary School. If, for some reason the numbers exceed these guidelines for any period of time you will be notified.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>Where is the One World International School located?</u><br> 696 Upper Changi Road East. It is close to East Coast Park and with lots of accommodation options nearby. East Coast is a very popular location for expatriate families.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>Are parents welcome at the One World International School?</u><br> Yes. OWIS encourages parental involvement in a variety of ways including a volunteer program. Full details will be available on enrolment.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>How do I find out how my child is progressing at school?</u><br> We see your understanding of and your commitment to your child as one of our greatest resources. We will communicate with you in a variety of ways including email, phone calls, formal reports and parent teacher interviews.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>What facilities do you have available?</u><br> Facilities include designated areas for outdoor and indoor sports, gymnasium, basketball, badminton & tennis courts, a multipurpose auditorium, centres for visual and performing arts, air-conditioned rooms, state of the art IT and Library infrastructure and we have 24 hour on site security in the School. We do not have a swimming pool on site but we use the SIA Sports Club pool that is located adjacent to the school.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>What extra curricular activities do you offer?</u><br> It is our aim to provide the best possible co-curricular program. Currently, on a rotational basis, we provide tennis, soccer, netball, drumming, dance, art, swimming, French, speech and drama and the Brazilian martial art Capoeira.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>Does the school provide transport for students?</u><br> The school has a contracted bus service. This is a door to door service in quality buses that have individual seat belts for every child. At present the school is offering a free bus service to a very wide geographic area. The majority of our students are taking advantage of this excellent service. The free bus service will become a user pay service in January 2010.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>Can students start mid term?</u><br> Yes. It is quite common for students to start in international schools mid term. We will individualise the program and help your child settle in.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>Is the wearing of the school uniform compulsory?</u><br> Yes, the uniform needs to be worn at all times in line with our uniform policy.</p> <p align="justify" class="gen"> <u>My child s current education system is different to One World International School. Will he/she be disadvantaged?</u><br> Children at international schools come from a variety of educational systems. Our Principal has experience in a variety of international schools and she is well aware of the similarities and the differences of each system.
